A history written on stage.

Have you ever watched a dance troupe and been completely blown away by the power of their performance?

No matter how hard you try to remain a cool and detached observer, you find your foot inadvertently tapping along to the beat. You attempt to restrain your hips but they start to sway in spite of yourself. And you have to cross your arms to keep your shoulders from shimmying with the rhythm.

Watching a group of people perform a dance number in complete unison is something special that hits different.

At Go Dance, we want to give everyone the opportunity to experience the thrill of group performance. That’s why we offer group choreography courses.

If your head is screaming protests:

‘I’m still trying to learn the basics.’

‘I’m not great at moving my arms and legs at once.’

‘I’m terrified of performing.’

‘I don’t like being in the spotlight.’

We say to you: Get out of your head and into your body for ten weeks and you’ll be blown away by how easily the basics are coming to you, how harmoniously your arms and legs are moving, and how confident you are feeling about yourself and your salsa.

Our warm, encouraging and passionate teachers will guide you through every step of the process. And the beauty of repetition and refinement is that eventually, your brain doesn’t even need to get involved – muscle memory takes over and you can just enjoy the ride.

So much more than steps.

But there’s more to choreography than improving your dance skills. Latin dance is not just dancing. It’s a social scene. It’s a community. It’s a place where you can meet people from all walks of life, make new friends, and feel a sense of belonging.

If you’ve ever nervously lined up to get into a social dance night and then felt the immediate relief of seeing your salsa buddies waiting for you, you know that sense of community and belonging.

Working with a team on a group choreography takes that to the next level. You get to be a part of something special. You get to have a new experience, to deepen new (and old) friendships, to create memories, and enjoy the adrenaline rush and thrill of performing – as well as the adoration and praise that follows.

Plus, if you and your crew are keen to use your new moves outside of our school parties, you can perform at salsa events around Sydney – and often get free entry or discounted passes for your trouble.

In pre-pandemic times, Go Dance choreography groups were hot on the Latin dance scene.

Our school has a rich history of teams performing together around Sydney as well as travelling to interstate events.

We’ve even had some teams end up in the Australian Salsa Championships (no pressure – that’s entirely optional).

Final thought.

Choreography is your chance to let your feet tap freely, give your hips permission to sway and allow your shoulders to shimmy all they like. But more importantly, it’s your chance to have an awesome challenge, make lasting memories and have loads of fun in the process.
