Salsa Dancing in a COVID-19 world! Here's what to expect.

Updated: Dec 6, 2020

Last night could not have gone any better! It was our first night back at the studio, and it was great to see a brand new group of students joining us to learn to Latin Dance.

Being a NSW COVID Safe Business meant that we had to get busy staying safe! Firstly everyone stayed 1.5 meters apart, except for couples or friends who live in the same household. Everyone registered their contact tracing details at the door, and we sanitized our hands!

The first hour started with learning the basic Salsa steps, followed closely by practising them to music, a little J. Lo, anyone? We then moved onto learning our first basic turns. After a few dizzy spells, our class of first-timers found their feet and were turning like pros! Next, it was time to "partner up".

Here's how we did it. Our students formed two lines, one of the leads, one of follows, both lines faced each other while remaining just over 1.5 meters apart (except for students that came as a couple). From there, we all shadow (non-contact) danced through our Latin Dance leading and following! Keeping 1.5 meters apart meant that students could still rotate and meet each other throughout the class! It was actually fun!

Although Latin Dance schools have been given the all-clear to recommence contact sports. Go Dance management and staff have decided to ease our way back into dancing by keeping our classes contactless for the next month. This will give both our students and staff a chance to practice our new COVID safe procedures. Social distancing and resisting the usual hugs and kisses that we normally greet each other with is going to take some practice!

We anticipate that Go Dance will return to partnered dance classes, with no rotations, in August. This is on the condition that the NSW Government continue to open up, lift restrictions and COVID cases continue to remain down to little or none. When we do return to partner dancing, students will be asked to BYO partner for their dance class. If students need some help finding a partner, Go Dance will be happy to find someone to partner you.

Now that the Beginners classes have successfully started, it's the Advanced, and Intermediate students turn to officially recommence classes this Sunday the 12th July!

There aren't many spots left for our Intermediate and Advanced classes this weekend, so make sure you've reserved your spot!

A big thanks go out to our brand new beginner Go Dance students! You all did amazing last night. Congratulation on completing your first class and we can't wait to see you again next week.
